Product Description The girl-power-meets-punk-rock spirit of the music featured in Whip It plays an integral role in telling the story, from setting the film's rebellious tone to celebrating the characters' wild individuality. The soundtrack's 19 songs reflect the film's outsider ethos with music from underground artists, including Belgian electro-rockers Goose ('Black Gloves'), Mercury Prize nominees The Go! Team ('Doing It Right'), L.A. beat-punks The Ettes ('Crown Of Age'), Rolling Stone Artist To Watch Apollo Sunshine ('Breeze'), Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman, and Nebraska indie-pop quintet Tilly and the Wall ('Pot Kettle Black').

The best soundtrack of the year. October 7, 2009 Michael Hammock (Bogart, Georgia United States) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
I just saw the movie Whip It on sunday and I must say that it's one of the best movies I have see this year. Drew Barrymore's directorial debut is very quirky and heartfelt which is what drew me to it. I could also connect with Ellen Page's character. Another important element in the film is the soundtrack which I will admit that the reason why I bought it is because I am a huge fan of The Breeders. They are one of my favorite bands but also because of the song that was used very brilliantly in the pool scene, Your Arms Around Me by Jens Lekman. I fell in love with that scene and the song and I knew that I had to buy the soundtrack. The song reminds me a little bit of Morrisey and The Smiths but I mean that in a good way because The Smiths are the best band ever.
Anyway, this album introduced me to a lot of great underground music that I need to get into. Director Drew Barrymore and music supervisor Randall Poster have put together a unique blend of music that really puts you into Bliss's world and with the characters and settings. Just like the movie, some songs are fun and some are very beautiful and full of heart. I can't think of a better soundtrack that I have herd in awhile. Also, there is a linor note by Drew Barrymore in the booklet that really explains how she put together the music for the film. I couldn't have said it any better then her when she describes music and film. "This soundtrack is my mix tape for you", says Barrymore and I must say that she put together the best and most impressive mix of music that I have herd for a film in a while. She really is a genius I think and such a talented director that I hope to see more great work from her in the future.
If you were touched by this film and the music in it as much as I was then you need to buy this soundtrack, you won't be dissapointed.
You can't go wrong October 1, 2009 Carmelita DeMariez (Milwaukee, WI) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Fantastic music from an excellent movie based on a great book. If nothing else, buy this. You really can't go wrong. It really doesn't have a genre, but no matter what you'll have at least two songs stuck in your head within 48 hrs of buying this album. Go for it! :D
Awsome! November 9, 2009 R. Addrisi 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Best Movie Album out in the last Year!!!
Great rendition of the Association's classic "Never My Love" done by Har Mar Superstar.
Great Flick ! October 21, 2009 J. Howard Loved the film ! It had a heart, simpathetic characters & rang true. The soundtrack was also a big part of it - (however we need a "Film Score" CD as well). Barrymore has created a refreshing piece of cinema, & I look forward to her future endeavors. - She's is not just pretty face.
A Mix Tape that Rocks! October 24, 2009 Richard E. Berger (West Babylon, NY) Whip It is the kind of movie that you wish would not end. The excitement it generates is electric, whether its set in the lead character Bliss's everyday life or her secret life as a roller derby queen. These punk songs by groups I never heard before are amazing! Garage rock is back! I am so grateful to director Drew Barrymore for putting these all in one package! When I hear the songs, every time I am transported back to that roller derby in the warehouse and this scene is a far cry from anything I have ever seen before. My personal experience with roller skates is much more innocent, early eighties roller rinks moving to disco tunes like "Freak Out" or "Funkytown." These songs for the most part are current and bring a fresh outlook for rock with a hope that punk can still survive in the world of hip-hop and teen pop.
The first track that caught my attention was not a new song but a new remix of the classic "Lollipop" by the Chordettes. What a way to update a classic! The repetitious nature rather than monotonous is actually infectious. Makes me want to check out Squeak E Clean and Desert Eagles other remixes. Checking out the new chicks, gotta love Tilly and the Wall, "Pot Kettle Black", Peaches "Boys Wanna Be Her" and The Go! Team, "Doing it Right". These ladies let it all hang out with a passion reminiscent of the Runaways and the Ramones who are also happily featured with "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" Drew even includes a couple non punk tracks with Dolly Parton's "Jolene" and 38 Special's "Caught Up in You" which were used in the film and suprisingly don't ruin the girrrrrrl effect created by these rock goddesses. A few guys get in there like Adam Green with Har Mar Superstar covering "Never My Love" and Landon Pigg who plays Bliss's love interest is featured in his song "High Times" that's heard in the film. His track is kind of raw and unpolished but it helps make this collection so rockin'! Just put this disc on when you have chores or even at your desk at work. Even better than caffeine, it WILL get your energy up!
Recommended tracks(though all are great):
Pot Kettle Black--Tilly and the Wall
Boys Wanna Be Her--Peaches
Bang On--The Breeders
Lollipop (Squeak E. Clean & Desert Eagles Remix)--The Chordettes
