5 out of 5 stars Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo Complete - A Great CD!   January 4, 2004

Finally, on the film's 35th anniversary, a complete remastered edition of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly's score has been released. This CD contains 10 new tracks as well as remastering of the old ones - the quality has been improved. Almost everything on this CD is new in some way or another.
Along with the ten new tracks, the alternate ending of "Il Triello" (The Trio) has been released, which is placed nicely on the end of the track. In the alternate ending, the trumpet ends while the choir continues, instead of continuing over top.
"La Storia Di Un Soldato" has a more complete version released on this CD. The new version is almost six minutes long, but it is the original as featured in the movie - the one on the old soundtrack wasn't, and didn't have complete lyrics.
There are a few tracks worth buying the entire CD for. One of them is Inseguimento, which is another variation of the main theme, which focuses more on whistling in this track. Another is "Padre Ramirez" (Father Ramirez). This song is simply spectacular. It starts off with a guitar solo which portrays a feeling of sadness, then at the end features a speedy version of the main track.
Some songs on this CD are similar to those already released, such as "Il Treno Militaire" (The Military Train), and "La Missione San Antonio" (San Antonio Mission). These tracks are very similar to March Without Hope and The Death Of A Soldier, but contain different pieces within them as well which make them worth listening to. "Fine Di Una Spia" starts with A-D-A-D-AAA, then ends with another version of "Il Forte" (The Strong).
"Il Bandito Monco" (The Monco Bandit) isn't a very exciting track, it's obvious this track was meant to cause suspense in the movie, and isn't really for private listening, but it's the only one like this on the CD.
"Due Contro Cinque" (Two Versus Five) is made up of a repeating percussion piece that definitely portrays suspense. In the middle is another bit of the main theme. Although much of this track is quiet with the occasional beat of a drum, it is still enjoyable to listen to.
As for the CD's packaging, it's really nice, with stills from the movie, great artwork, information of the making of the music, and lyrics for the complete version of The Story Of A Soldier. The back lists the tracks in Italian, as well as their length.

So basically, buy this CD, because you won't regret it. Everything is better than the original, better quality, more songs, lyrics to "The Story Of A Soldier", and so on. The inside packaging says this C.D. is a limited edition, so get one before it's too late!

5 out of 5 stars Gotta have this if you are into spaghetti westerns!   April 7, 2004

Although this disc sounds so superior to the domestic EMI-Manhattan release, I have a few minor gripes (very, very minor!) OK, the overall sound is majorly improved (warmer bass, less shrill on the highs), but I still hear quite a bit of hiss and a few abrupt edits. Oh well, I guess this is as good as it will ever sound. The bonus tracks are wonderful, although (be warned) they are in mono. I actually shed a few tears during PADRE RAMIREZ (I'm not kidding!). The full length version of THE STORY OF A SOLDIER is great; you can actually understand the lyrics, but here again, it's in mono. The big shining moment on this disc is the finale, where the final 2 minutes and 14 seconds of THE TRIO have been restored (yeah, you guessed it; in mono). The beauty of it is that now you are not left hanging at the end of the disc. This right here, folks, is worth the price of admission!

5 out of 5 stars An incredible re-mastering   September 13, 2006

There are a few pieces on here that are so clean, they sound like they were recorded last week (I actually thought track 1 was a re-recording for a minute). Yes, a few tracks are mono, but still of great quality. I've been dissapointed by "re-masterings" of other albums that just make the material a bit louder and tweak the EQ, but this is an absolutely top-notch job and it's obvious a lot of love went into this edition.

THIS is the one to get. Forget the North-American release which is missing so many tracks and only has shorter versions of some. This release has it all. Some tracks have some background hiss, but it isn't bothersome. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Good music, but Ugly CD cover.   July 18, 2006

I already had the American release of "Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo", but wasn't happy how it cut out parts of the last song. That alone prompted me to buy this CD and I'm happy I did. If you can afford it, skip the American release and use a fistful of dollars to buy this import.

I guess there are just two types of soundtracks, those with guns and those that dig. This soundtrack has the gun.

My only gripe is that the cover is pretty bad. I didn't get the cover that's advertised, but the one I posted a picture of. There is no booklet, but you can't beat this music.

Maybe Arch Stanton can rest in peace now.
